NFL Week 5 Wrap Up

Week 5 of the NFL season had a few shockers and the true validation of the Denver Broncos as being a legitimate contender in the AFC happened with the victory over the New England Patriots. The Seahawks saw the return of Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck who led the Seattle Seahawks to the most shocking defeat of the week with the thrashing of the Jacksonville Jaguars 41-0. Dallas Cowboys are mediocre and their play against the Kansas City Chiefs who they should have easily beat clearly supports such mediocrity. Early showboating for the San Francisco 49ers and terrible play were lowlights in their loss to Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons. Donovan McNabb returned to from injury and led the Eagles to victory.

I had a terrible week picking the winners in Week 5. I know not many expected the Jaguars to get blown out by 41 points. I only managed to pick 8 out of 14 games correctly. Many close games could have gone either way sunk my ship in Week 5, but I will rebound in Week 6.

The team in red represents an incorrect predicted pick.

The team in green represents a correct predicted pick.

1. Atlanta Falcons VS San Francisco Final Score: 45-10

Atlanta Wide Receiver torched defense for 210 yards receiving and Runningback Michael Turner scored three touchdowns. The 49er's defense had it worst outing of the season.

2. Arizona Cardinals VS Houston Texans Final Score: 28-21

The "Bend don't Break" rule was clearly in effect during this game. Arizona wins the game on an important goal line stand. A reminder of great football stands in the past.

3. Baltimore Ravens VS Cincinnati Bengals Final Score: 17-14

Bengals' QB Carson Palmer hooked up with WR Andre Caldwell for a 20 yard touchdown pass. The Ravens lose another close game.

4. Buffalo Bills VS Cleveland Browns Final Score: 6-3

One team had to win in this game and the final score really just shows how inept both offensive units were during the game.

5. Carolina Panthers VS Washington Redskins Final Score: 20-17

Carolina finally gets their first victory over a struggling Washington team. Washington's offense needs a complete overhaul so expect drastic changes at the end of the season.

6. Dallas Cowboys VS Kansas City Chiefs Final Score: 26 – 20 OT

Dallas is slowly proven the critics correct as most think they are overrated. This game should not have gone into overtime. WR Miles Austin had career game with 250 yards and two touchdown grabs. The Cowboys could have discovered an alternative to the Roy Williams' experiment.

7.
Denver Broncos VS New England Patriots Final Score: 20-17 OT

With the victory over the Patriots, the Broncos have proven they are contenders. Many experts including myself were not sold on team who was one fluke catch from falling from the ranks of the unbeaten. This game had some great defense on display by both teams.

8.
Detroit Lions VS Pittsburgh Steelers Final Score: 28-20

Three touchdown passes by Ben Roethlisberger and defense won the game for the Steelers. Pittsburgh manages to string two consecutive wins together and win on the road for the first time during the season.

9. Indianapolis Colts VS Tennessee Titans Final Score:
31-9

It was another impressive game by QB Peyton Manning. He throws for over 300 yards yet again. Manning has thrown for over 300 yards in every game this year. The question needs to be asked how long the Titans will allow Kerry Collins to start without a victory. It is difficult to think the Titans will make an appearance in the playoffs; therefore, the season is a bust compared to a 13-3 won loss record of last season.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars VS Seattle Seahawks Final Score: 41-0

Seahawks' Matt Hasselbeck makes a big splash in his return. He throws 4 touchdowns and for 241 yards. It was a quite impressive outing. Jaguars did not show up and everyone in America thought this game would a lot closer, because in previous weeks Jacksonville has played well.

11. Minnesota Vikings VS Saint Louis Rams Final Score: 38-10

The Vikings wins another game, but the Rams are one of the worst teams in the NFL. The schedule gets tougher for the Vikings in next few weeks and then America will find out about Favre's best team ever. It was the first victory for Brett Favre at age 40 years old.

12. New York Giants VS Oakland Raiders Final Score: 44-7

Once again Raiders' cannot generate an offensive attack. The Giants remain undefeated and Eli Manning Starting Games streak is still alive. Word of advice to Oakland, Michael Vick is tired of being on the sidelines of the Eagles, he may be available and he definitely would be more exciting than Jamarcus Russell.

13. New York Jets VS Miami Dolphins Final Score: 31-27

In my post Rex See Wildcats Run Pass the Jets, It shows that the Jets defense could not stop the Dolphins' Wildcat offense. Rookie QB Mark Sanchez played well but it was done for a losing cause. Dolphins Chad Henne picked apart the Jets' defense.

14.
Philadelphia Eagles VS Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Final Score: 33-14

QB Donovan McNabb returns to the Eagles' lineup and his play was impressive as usual. The question now is Will Michael Vick be satisfied playing a minimum role in the offense? Kevin Kolb has shown he is capable backup in the absence of McNabb and that does not lead to much playing time if McNabb goes down again.
